An Art Exhibition by Andrew Gilmore

The exhibition is about contrasts.

You see an attractive woman strolling through town, wearing designer clothes you automatically assumed she has everything you want: status and wealth and happiness.

It's often far from the truth.

Western culture blows up our superficial side. We're all superficial- it's our instinct when it comes to appearance. It's down to the individual to cognitize that.

In the paintings glossy magazine cuttings are set next to scribbles and crude brush strokes. I find mass media imagery as beguiling as I do poisonous. The collage and other materials make up narratives. Some are intentional others are accidental.

Artist Biography:
Gilmore is an artist and writer based in Manchester. His work has appeared in magazines including Bizarre and Loaded. Gilmore has worked with bands and his fine art work has been hung in galleries across the country. He recently finished, after two years, his conceptual eBay work. That included a bible signed by Jesus Christ that reached 10 million with the bidding. Gilmore also put on the alleged severed head of Jayne Manesfield and toilet roll featuring dictators and villains old and contemporary.
